DJ Spoom, from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, is one of the youngest producers to emerge from Mexico’s rich Cumbia Editada scene. Borne out of the democratization of technological means, Cumbia Editada mixes all the various strains of cumbia with homegrown electronic music, using beats and samples from a wide variety of styles.

Barely 20, Víctor Daniel Zambrano (DJ Spoom) has already collaborated with Grupo Megakali, as well as Kiss Sound, Twist NY, Manhattan, Samuray and Fantasma. He is heavily influenced by the Wepa style of his hometown of San Luis Potosi and is more widely connected to Mexico’s Sonidero movement, of which Grupo Mijez is an illustrious representative.
By remixing two of their classic tracks, DJ Spoom is bridging styles and generations and bringing Mexican cumbia to new audiences.
